Philosophy & Therapeutic Approach
It is uncommon for people to willingly seek therapy. Misinformation, fear of stigma, prejudices abound. How unfortunate! By the time someone reaches out it is often because they are at a point of desperation; this is when the work can begin. My philosophy and approach have been formed through many years of working as a clinical social worker. Though trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, I am much more eclectic in my approach and attuned to client needs. I see therapy as a tool. It is hard work. There is a saying that “only the brave go to therapy.” In reaching out to begin the therapy process, one is choosing to become conscious, to face what is not working in one’s life, and to take action to change that. Therapy can hold us together when we feel like we are falling apart.
In our work together we explore you and your life. We will find what is working for you and what is not. Together we will look into the factors that influenced the person you are today in the place you are at in this present moment. We will uncover your current beliefs about yourself, others, and your view of how the world works. I can offer you compassion, a safe place, tools to help navigate life changes and transitions, and perspective. Together we will develop a treatment plan that address your unique self and through talk therapy, mindfulness techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy approaches, and dreamwork we will work towards your goals to achieve your desired outcome for therapy.
“In Japan, broken objects are often repaired with gold. The flaw is seen as a unique piece of the objects history, which adds to its beauty.
Consider this when you feel broken.”
