Philosophy & Therapeutic Approach

Whether you have been in therapy for years or this is your first time, meeting with a new therapist can be one of the most difficult parts of therapy. It is normal to have concerns such as “what if this isn’t a good match? When will I feel comfortable opening up about my difficulties from the past or present? How can I trust someone with sensitive information that I’ve just met?” I believe the most important part of treatment is having a strong therapeutic relationship that is cultivated through warmth, compassion and humor. I use a person-centered approach that focuses on autonomy and empathic understanding, recognizing that human beings are very complex, and that perspectives and feelings are subjective. In sessions, we explore dynamics of childhood and family systems and examine how social and cultural constructs influences ones’ feelings and attitudes. This helps us understand our own patterns; why we think, behave, and hold certain beliefs, which is important in developing insight and building on tools in order to achieve treatment goals.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work at Western Washington University (2012) and Masters of Social Work from Simmons University, Boston (2019).  As of 2021, I have certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Plus for trauma, depression, behavior issues and anxiety. I specialize in working with adolescents, emerging adults and families using eclectic interventions and tools depending on the personal learning and therapy styles of each client.
