COUPLES THERAPY
Our approach is strength-based – focused on solutions.
Couples Therapy is a valuable resource for spouses or other partners who are experiencing distress in a significant relationship, often characterized by poor communication, feelings of dissatisfaction, and diminished trust.
Couples who participate in therapy are assisted in the process of conflict resolution with one another. In addition to offering skills for negotiating differences, couples therapy often serves to facilitate recognition of problems as opportunities, sometimes providing healing of wounds much older than the relationship.
Although reconciliation is the goal of most participants, couples therapy is also recommended for relationships that are ending, for reaching a healthy separation and the redefinition of a relationship, especially when it is necessary for the relationship to continue in a significant capacity, such as in ongoing parenting.
Couples Therapy takes place between a therapist and both partners in a relationship. On occasion, it may involve the therapist meeting with each individual separately, before coming back together again. The focus is on relationship dynamics, although individual issues are spotlighted in this process.
